Hey hey, in an effort to make these more than once a year, here's some words.

I've been ignoring my projects and things in favor of a beta game called Gigantic, whose 24/7 beta sadly ended last weekend (but I still ended it with a bang, check out this clip from one of the last games I played: [link] )

Now that that's over, I'll get back to some other stuff. As you may or may not have known, Doors 2 is taking submissions due later this month. I haven't started anything, but I plan to do some submission(s) if possible. So that's on the agenda.

I have a few videos that are more or less done, but I haven't posted because of length/preconceived notions of quality. They're just a bit dull compared to some of my other stuff. Which makes sense considering I was focusing on some shorter, more quickly completed stuff.

Here's a project that's been on the shelf for awhile. I hit the roadblock of figuring out jigglebones, even though I know how. I'm just not eager to set up blender exports to SFM, I suppose. Anyway, maybe you can guess:

Are those enough hints for you? I'll finish it eventually... time is short!

Anyway, not too much going on otherwise. Busy busy...

... I really should. Always say I will, then don't at all. I suppose I don't really like talking about myself too much.

Anyway, 2015, it's been long, if mostly only because it was busy. I graduated from college, had a hard time finding a job for awhile, found one job which I took for a month, was immediately able to get a better job thanks to a friend, and then here I am.

Artistically, I made a bunch of stuff the first half of the year, then I've been a bit under the radar trying to adjust to the set 40 hour workweek.

Honestly though, I think I may be starting to stagnate a bit... it's bound to happen once you adjust to a new thing and have done it for awhile, but I dunno. Maybe I should give the pony stuff a break for awhile, try to concentrate more on doing more blender and/or maya stuff, (also since I still have a student maya license for 2 more years). I still have some more ideas for projects to do, but get a good way into things, I get quite distracted, so I'm either losing interest or have really bad project management skills and don't set achieveable goals for worksessions, thus the distraction. Either way, I see it as I have one or two big SFM projects then I should pony a bit of a rest for awhile.

Also this year, a good friend of mine was diagnosed with a fairly rare kind of cancer. This life thing man. You never know what'll happen, so you just kind of have to go with it.

I'll not end with that note though! It's time for... arbitrary milestones hit this year! Everyone loves the numbers! Let's go:

  • 100+ Watchers on DA: hooray!
  • 1,000 likes: Book Princess [SFM] hit this, my first video ever to do so! hooray!
  • 100k+ views: I have 2 other videos with this milestone, only difference is, Book Princess [SFM] I don't actually incredibly dislike in hindsight!
  • 2,000+ subs on youtube: hooray I now have more subs than people I had in my highschool! what now!

Well, that's all from me. Let's have a good year people!

Cheers to 2015!

2 min read
I'll be honest: 2014 was probably one of the best and worst years I've ever had. Somehow.

The completely unexpected death of a close friend of mine is something I never thought would happen to me so early in my life, but it did. It had me questioning everything for a time. I've moved on as much as I can by now, and I won't dwell on it anymore. I'm moving on!

Thankfully though, I've done well this year, more than I ever thought would be possible. I never thought I'd end up animating in 3D, and doing it well, but that's what I've done. More than a handful of animations, and many of those animated well. Or, at least of quality I really never thought I'd be capable of.

I've even got into 3D modelling with the confidence I've built up animating, going into it with the mindset of "How hard could it be?" (Well, complicated perhaps, but nothing impossible). I've completed one fully rigged organic model this year, and am very pleased with it, and you can see it below:

More than that, this year has shown me that the SFM pony community is a very nice one, an online community the likes of which I haven't had for some time. It's happy, helpful, and wonderful. I'm glad to be a part of it.

As for resolutions? Well, I have some things I want to finish, but mainly I want to make meaningful progress continuing to learn animation and 3D modelling. So that'll be my resolution, along with making time for these hobbies I like so much.

Here's to a good one then! Cheers, it'll be swell.

Hey hey, I'm not dead!

Haven't posted anything on here in some time, I still am making stuff, and have stuff I want to make.

But I've been preoccupied with trying to figure out 3D modelling, as you might have heard in my last journal.

I've been making good progress too. Check out this secretary bird model I've been making:

And a short video of the rig and flexes! (with working IK!):

Not pony, I know, but that's because the plan is to practice by making this model, before I make a pony related model (and figure out how to make it compatible with SFM). The goal is to make a young adult spike model, specifically something like this, from the fanfic Like Fine Wine: sophiecabra.deviantart.com/art…

I want to get this bird done, then move on to that. The idea is to start on that by December at the latest. So hopefully I'll be able to get something useable in SFM out sometime!

I got tagged by TaceoCinema. I'm just getting around to doing it, because why not.

If I tag you, feel free to ignore it. I won't mind. These tag things end up feeling kind of chain-mail-y anyway.

Here are the rules:

1. You must post the rules.
2. Each person must post 5 things about themselves in their journal.
3. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post and create five new questions for the people you tag to answer
4. You have to choose 10 people to tag and post their icons on your journal.
5. Go to their page and tell them you have tagged them.
6. No tag backs
7. No stuff in the tagging section about "you're tagged if you're reading this" You legitimately have to tag atleast 5 people.

Things about me:

1. I'm in my last year at college, studying Computer Science. I'm still somewhat surprised I ever have time to animate stuff, since animation is a little time consuming.

2. I'm currently trying to figure out organic 3D modelling! So I haven't been posting much stuff anywhere.

3. A few months ago, one of my good friends quite tragically and unexpectedly passed away. So I'm still sort of feeling the fallout from that.

4. I'm actually quite well traveled, which I'm thankful for. I've been all over the states and north america, and I've even visited south america once, and europe twice.

5. Sometimes I can be incredibly stubborn. For example, when making stuff, sometimes I feel that I obsolutely don't want to make anything unoriginal, even if I'm following some tutorial or guide. Instead of doing a practice excercise as prescribed, I'll try it differently so it's something new. Which sometimes leads to headaches.

Questions from :icontaceocinema: :

1. Where do you feel most at home?
Completely lost in some activity, whether that be work, hobbies, or some fictional world via whatever medium that might be.
2. What's your favourite bone inside your body?
I've never really considered that... teeth aren't bones so... the outermost bone in my right pointer finger I suppose.
3. Favourite childhood game/tv show?
A game, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.
4. Who is the one closing the door when the bus drivers gets off?
These are getting more abstract and existential, aren't they? Jonathan 3000.
5. What is the name of the vintage milk sold at the Milk Bar?
Trader Joe's special dairy, year 1863.

I'm going to be lame and not tag enough people, because most of the people I would have tagged have been tagged already I think:

:iconfd-daylight:
:icon0gamex0:
:iconraptor1701:
:iconjayriavieock:

Questions to answer:

1. What got you into SFM? (if applicable)
2. When do you feel the most motivated to work on personal projects?
3. What is your favorite animal?
4. If time travel is possible, should people do it?
5. What goal are you working toward right now?

Have fun!
